3 Generations

Juan Carlos Deicas account that his grandparents came from Europe, like so many in search of a better future in America. In 1879, on a long trip from Italy to Uruguay, he was born a love story, which would lead to his family.

His grandmother, Maria Guana, met on the boat Massimo Deicas. She was born on January 25, 1863, he was 16. He reached the world January 15, 1855, had fulfilled 24. Although not known, both came from the same region, the Valtellina, in Lombardy. Piatta he was from a small neighboring town of Bormio, at the foot of Mount Stelvio, near the border with Switzerland and Austria.

Massimo and Maria were married in Montevideo on February 5, 1887, and settled in the Colon area, where their first children were born. Then they moved to Piedras Blancas, to live in a modest house in the street Roof of Lima almost Dunant. Massimo was full-time workers; carpenter, painter, bricklayer, in fifth, worked diligently to provide a decent life for his family he had grown to 6 children.

After several years of hard work and dedication, Massimo fulfilled his dream of homeownership, bought a plot of fractionation Francisco Piria, in the same neighborhood, and built his house with the help of his son Louis.

Massimo Deicas died in Montevideo in January 1928, never imagining that half a century later, his grandson Juan Carlos Deicas, would be one of the great responsibility of promoting the wine industry of our country.

Juan Carlos Deicas, son of Louis, the third son Massimo, born in Montevideo on September 6, 1937.

Juan Carlos was raised in the neighborhood Piedras Blancas, at Teniente Galeano, he studied economics, and before entering the world wine worked as a bank. He married in 1960 with Elida Heres, with whom he had two children, Mariela and Fernando.

In 1979 Juan Carlos Deicas, he founded Juanico, which is today one of the leading wineries of our country.

Before being owned by Family Deicas, land Juanico passed through different owners. Among them he stood out Don Francisco Juanico, who in 1830 broke with the farming tradition of the area, and built an underground cellar that allows you to produce high quality wines because of its natural air conditioning.

But the big change is newly produced from Fernando Deicas assumes control of the cellar in the early 80s with a new vision and a "great change of mentality" Family Deicas incorporates new technologies and makes a strong industrial investment to face new challenges and thus open the door to the cellar in the world.

With only 15 and 13 years, Santiago and Fernando, were responsible for drafting the first Uruguayan Tannat Liqueur.

Santiago, was appointed Coordinator of Directors of the winery in 2011 and in 2013 was received in Food Engineering. Committed to their tasks in the hold and the vision and momentum of their own age, Santiago Deicas, put the same passion as his grandfather and father had to forge the history of Juanico, this renowned Uruguayan winery, which currently leads the market Domestic Preferential Wine Quality.

In 2010, Family Deicas decided to separate the production of certain special wines and the winery born intone Premium Family Deicas. This winery is located in Progreso, Canelones, and the icon of it is an old mansion known as Domaine Castelar.

This old house was built by the Dr. Candido Juanicó, son of the owner of those lands between 1845 and 1850. It was restored and remodeled by Family Deicas, a task it took for about 4 years. Currently the house has two floors, an underground cellar for aging-in premium wines from the cellar, and it is surrounded by a natural green environment with vineyards and olive plantations, which make this a place with beauty particular.

Deicas Family wines are produced on a small scale, paying close attention to the whole process, from the vineyard to the guard.

"Through the dedication and detail, we seek not only high quality but also convey our identity, our essence in each of our creations," Fernando Deicas, President of Bodega Familia Deicas.

Today, three generations of this family share the same passion: to achieve the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
